2008 - Year of the Yang Earth Rat

February 7, 2008 - January 26, 2009

The "Yang Brown Earth Rat"!

General Overview of Wu Zi, Brown Earth Rat Year

February 7, 2008 is New Year's Day, according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar used by millions all over the world together with the Gregorian calendar. And according to the Chinese almanac, the year is 4705 and a Year of the Brown Yang Earth Rat.

Chinese New Year falls on Thursday, February 7th 2008.

The Chinese New Year that is celebrated for about fifteen days is one moment in the year when the whole nation feels united as they can imagine each other's enjoyment. The Chinese New Year gets determined by the Lunar calendar and therefore it is sometimes called the Lunar New Year. In 2008, the Chinese Lunar Year Festival would start from 7 th of February. As every one is aware of its significance, the working people in china can take weeks of holidays so that they can join the company of their near and dear ones and a feast with their family members on the Lunar New Year's Eve. Although with the changing times and increasing mobility of the people the celebration of Chinese New Year Festival has undergone some changes, everybody still very fervently follow all the customs that their elders have taught them.

After two, Fire years life may seem calmer during this Earth year. That could be deceptive, however, as the Rat never stops moving, especially when it comes to mental activity.

Unfortunately Earth has a destructive relationship with the Rat's fixed element, Water. This is not disastrous, but it does mean people should not rely too much on luck this year.

On the other hand the combination of Earth and Rat is extremely positive when it comes to achieving results. The Rat tends to take a lot of risks, while Earth is associated with practicality and stability. This creates balance and can lead to good profits, increased productivity and all sorts of accomplishments. And, under Earth's influence there could be fewer scandals than in other, Rat years.

The Rat is the first sign of the Chinese zodiac and signifies new beginnings. This year is thus an appropriate time to start new ventures, especially groundbreakings. This includes new ideas, directions, and ways of doing things. It is a time to experiment and put plans into action, as there will be plenty of opportunities to achieve success. Something to consider is that which is begun now is likely to have long term consequences, so choose wisely to enrich your life.

Interestingly this is an equally good time for thinking and all kinds of intellectual endeavors. Planning, scholarship and research, for example, are favorable activities. It is also an auspicious time for the arts; although, under Earth's influence, applied arts such as design and graphics may do best.

Earth favors those who are tied to the land, do a lot of routine work, deal with practical matters, or perform work of a spiritual nature. Looking at the characteristics of both Earth and Rat it could be a very good year for those with careers in business, construction, engineering, academia, planning and the clergy.

There is likely to be a focus on career and self improvement this year to the detriment of family. People thus need to be attentive and creative so that this area does not suffer. It is, however, a relatively good time to begin a new romance. Those in a relationship may want to consider raising it to the next level, to include marriage.

Since this is an Earth year those people born in a Metal year will generally fare better than others of their animal sign, while those born in a Water year are likely to do worse than those born in Wood, Fire, and Earth years.

Health issues vary not only by sign but by each individual. Your best bet is to visit a Chinese doctor to have your balances checked and get some advice for the coming year. It is an Earth year, so one thing we can say in general is to get enough exercise and be on the alert for unwanted weight gains. Inactivity could lead to problems.

The year 2008 will be a year of possibilities, a time of progress; although, it may not generally be spectacular. Those who take the biggest risks could be disappointed. Everyone should, nevertheless, add something new to their life.

Economy

The extremely strong wood element will produce strong attention to the issues which relate to environment, education, health and family well being. These issues will gain public attention and be supported by governments and their respective departments.

The wood element related industries will have a good year, such as: publishing, education, orchard, medical industry, clothing, textile, forestry, furniture etc. However, this success will not come easily, as there will be strong competition.

Due to the absence of fire and metal elements in the Ba Zi chart, the industries related to these elements will have a slower year compared to last year, such as: chemistry, restaurants, manufacturing, computer, high tech industries and jewelry etc.

The water element is restricted by earth, therefore, the industries relating to the water element, such as shipping, travelling, drinking etc may have a difficult year ahead.

The stock market will have down trend in this year, market will pick up in May, June and July, will have a sharp decrease in the second half of the year from August. Therefore, investors should be careful not to be over optimistic.

The property market will be good for houses and big mansions, prices will remain high, however the market will not be good for small properties.

The annual ruling star for this year is 1. The number 1 represents Water and will be sitting on the centre of the ruling age 8. Eight represent young children. Be mindful of water activities. Water over young children. Be careful to those who love water sports. Make sure you have your life jackets on. Water and Earth is also in conflict. Earth also relates to stomach. This year more children may have stomach related sickness. Today medical cares are expensive, make sure you are well protected and insured.

In flying stars, there are 3 potents stars that all of us should take note.
This year, star 5 is at South and star 2 at Northwest. Traditionally, these 2 stars can be harmonized by hanging a strand of 6 ancient Chinese metal coins or a 6 rods metal wind chimes. No ‘opening eyes’ required.

Star 3, a quarrelsome star is at the West. If it faces your main door, use red color or a lighted lamp to harmonise this star. You don’t paint your door red! Otherwise, it may be mistaken as ……… Alternatively, you can place a red color door mat outside your door step.

The timely star 8 or sometime called the wealth star is at East direction. If your main door face east and in addition you have a pool outside, make sure the water is clean and active. You have the potential to gain some wealth.

Another good star 9 is at Southeast. It is also a romance star. To enhance your romance and relationship, place a bouquet of fresh flowers at this sector in you room.

Academic star 4 is at Northeast. This sector is good for your children study corner. You may place your study desk at this sector. Do not place water here.

Star 6 though faded, is still usable if you have attended my lessons. This year it is at the North sector. Place still water to enhance your career and travel opportunity. And finally star 7 at SW. Beware of robbery and fire hazard especially if it falls in your kitchen. You may also place a bowl of still water in this sector.

Basics of Flying Star Fengshui

It is important to learn about the locations of annual and monthly flying stars (xuan kong fei xing), reputed to be the most powerful systems in the study of Feng Shui. Annual stars stay in a sector for that year and shift to another sector in a pre-determined pattern in the following year. Monthly stars change positions on a monthly basis.

The star numbers run from 1 to 9 and each flying star number possesses auspicious or inauspicious meanings. In period 8, (2004 to 2024) the three luckiest star numbers are 8, 6 and 1 while the unlucky stars are 2, 3, 5 and 7. When the combination of the annual star and monthly star in a compass sector for a particular month is made up of the good stars (8, 6 and 1), the particular sector is said to be very auspicious and will bring lots of good luck to its occupant. But when the bad stars congregate in the same sector, it's important that you vacate the room for the month. If this cannot be done, you must install Feng Shui cures to suppress them or they will bring misfortunes of the most severe kind. However, you do not have to worry if the bad stars fly into a storeroom, toilet, garage or a missing corner because their negative effects are said to be contained and dissolved. The effect, whether good or bad, is lesser when the number appears alone.

What luck does each star bring and Feng Shui items recommendations to activate the lucky stars and counter the unlucky ones.

  • The #1 White star brings career luck in promotions and recognition (Water element) - Activate with water features or a Dragon Tortoise with Ruyi.
  • The #2 Illness star brings illnesses, diseases, ailments and fatal health problems (Earth element). Feng Shui Cures: Eight Immortals Metal Wu Lou tied with red ribbon/string is an excellent remedy. You could use Six-rod metal windchime (if the star flies into the South, Southwest or Northeast sectors) or 5-rod windchime for other sectors.
  • The #3 Hostile star brings quarrels, verbal assaults, hostilities, negative encounters, lawsuits and court case (Wood element). Feng Shui cures: Metal coins or The Laughing Buddha dressed in red robes carrying a gold ingot.
  • The #4 Romance star brings literary luck and love luck (Wood element) - Activate with symbols of love and romance and Wen Chang Pagoda.
  • The #5 Yellow star brings bad luck of all kinds, financial loss, accidents, misfortunes, mishaps, fights and death (Earth element)
Feng Shui cures: 6-rod metal windchime (if the star flies into the South, Southwest or Northeast sectors) or 5-rod windchime for other sectors. The Five Element Pagoda or Lucky Feng Shui Fan are excellent cures too. Keep the afflicted sector as quiet as possible. Do not undertake any renovation or construction works in this sector. Keep the doors and windows in this area closed.
  • The #6 Heavenly star brings prosperity luck from heaven with plenty of success and helpful people (Metal element) - Activate with coins such as the 10 Auspicious Emperor Coins or Kwan Kung figurine.
  • The #7 Violent star brings severe bad luck (violence, burglary and bloodshed) in Period 8. (Metal element)
Feng Shui cure: A small lamp, a pair of Rhinocerous figurines flanking any door in the afflicted sector.
  • The #8 Wealth star brings wealth, prosperity, and lots of money luck (Earth element). This sector is extremely auspicious in Period 8 (Year 2004 to 2024). Activate with crystals.
  • The #9 Multiplying star doubles the good luck or bad luck brought by the sector, depending on the effect of the other (monthly) star. (Fire element) - Enhance by keeping this sector brightly lit.

2008 Flying Star Forecast

Good Stars: 1, 8, 9

Neutral Stars: 4, 6

Bad Stars: 2, 3, 5, 7

Feng Shui energies also change from year to year. Therefore, it is necessary to watch for the re-allocation of good and bad energies at the beginning of each year, so that we can take necessary precautions if some bad energy happens to arrive at important locations of our residence or offices. In the year of the Rat, the bad energy called “Five Yellow” – symbolizing obstacles and misfortune, arrives at the South. If your South of the house is an important area such as bedroom or entrances, it is recommended that one hangs a metal wind chime there to dissolve this bad energy. The worst months will be in February, August, and November. Another bad star number 2, symbolizing sickness, will arrive in the Northwest in 2008. The traditional method to dissolve this 2 is to hang a string of six metal coins in the affected area in the Northwest of the house The Grand Duke this year is in the North, hence it is not favorable to “move earth” or make substantial construction work in this direction. It is also not recommended for one to sit with back against exact South as you will be sitting against the unfavorable energy called “Three Shars” or “Three Killings”. As well as the “Crash position” against the Grand Duke. The bad star 3 is a star of conflict and robbery. This is present in the West of the house. It is necessary to put a piece of red paper in the West to minimize such bad influence. Also the bad star 7, representing scandals is in the Southwest, the traditional solution for this bad star 7 is to place 3 or 4 of bamboo plant grown in clear glass vase of water in the Southwest location.

Centre (1 White)

Kan #1 is a water element. In the physical body it is the ear. Internal organ it is the kidneys and it is also blood.

Kan water #1 (tan Lang) has flown into the centre location for 2008 and the centre is considered an earth energy and from a five element aspect it is predicted to cause conflict and whilst I believe there may be conflict in the year I do not think it will be that bad especially if you follow the advice here.

If you activate certain areas of the home it can bring in new opportunities, gains in financial investments, academic achievements and scholarly pursuits. The intensity of these attributes will differ in varying degrees according to the influence of the visiting monthly stars.

It is awkward when an auspicious star flies into the centre of a building as it is usually an area that is open and hard to place enhancers, if the centre of your home is the middle of your dining room or lounge, bedroom or other important room this is good news as the positive energy can permeate the rest of the home once you place some enhancers.

If this is a child's bedroom or study area you should place a gold Tsai Shen Yeh statue and a set of three Chinese i-ching coins tied with red ribbon as this protects wealth and also creates wealth in 2008, this is a very important cure and enhancer in 2008.

Blue would be a good colour scheme for the room in the centre. Blue can also be used in beddings, throw-overs, lampshades, pillow covers etc. Although unlikely, but if a bed is located in this area, remember to place a brass wu-lou beside the bed.

Business's that rely on sales or related to industries selling properties, stock or similar should be cautious this year and make sure you place cures in the south and northwest part of your building especially so if they have a main door here.

Summary for year 2008:

The best months are April, June, September and November.

Take extra care in the months of May, July, August and December and check back here to further analyse these months.

Tips:

  • A brass Wu-Lou would be good for a bedroom that falls into the centre along with blue, black, grey or charcoal colours.
  • Place creative enhancements like displaying an abacus, calligraphy set, artist tools like canvas, brushes etc.
  • Place a gold Tsai Shen Yeh statue in the centre to protect wealth in 2008

Northwest (2 Black)

The northwest in 2008 is not a very nice area at all and best left alone if possible, easy for me to say that, I know and this is the reason why we write these cures and enhancers each year as not everyone has the luxury of moving bedrooms or offices. If you have a bedroom, office or other important room in the northwest and unable to move out please read this section carefully.

If your front door, bedroom, office, lounge or other well-used room is located in the northwest this will inevitably activate its malicious effects, so read on…

This star affects the health of those under its influence bringing with it sickness, disease, bad luck, stress, stomach and digestive problems, bloated feeling, gossip, back stabbing, family harmony and distress. This is especially so for people who are a Gua #1, 3 or 4.

The 2 Black in Period 8 is an untimely star and hence its influence will be of a negative nature.

You need to place a salt water cure, Wu Lou and six Chinese coins tied with red ribbon, metal singing bowl and also place more round metal decorative objects (provided they are not menacing looking, round shape metal is good) to dissipate its negative influence in the northwest corner of your home or room.

A three legged Toad in a gold colour is very effective at not only reducing the bad earth but by also protecting your wealth for the year and a little know cure is having the Toad with a i-ching coin placed underneath, these come standard in our 2008 cures kit. Make sure there are no red items, bright lights or burning candles in the northwest either up or downstairs. Do not worry if you have these colours already just introduce colours white, silver, gold or copper in the way of a floor mat, cushions, throws, tablecloth or such like. If you have a main door that falls in northwest in 2008 you would also be advised to hang a Ba Gua mirror outside to deflect the negative energy.

Ladies expecting their first born should try and avoid using this bedroom. If there is no choice, try to use a good (east, northeast or southeast) sector of the room and implement the necessary cures. You should also sleep with your crown of your head in your personal Tien Yi direction.

If you cannot avoid using this room or this corner of the room, place a brass Wu-Lou beside your bed. The brass Wu-Lou (also known as a calabash) gives elemental support to the northwest (metal) and also symbolises good health and dissipates the negative energy of the #2 star. Because the northwest is associated with the patriarch of the home the eldest male member of the home or business can be affected so make sure if he sleeps, works or spends a lot of time here all cures area placed.

More importantly, do not decorate the northwest room with red colour or triangle shapes items and most important avoid burning candles or leaving bright fiery coloured lights on for too long during the year 2008.

Avoidance of this area is the best cure although I know this is hard so try and follow the advice and try and keep it as quiet as possible.

Now having given you all this bad news, I will now give some hope for those who are Gua 9 or 2 as this combination whilst on the whole is very bad it can be good for them in wealth and career, you will still need to place the recommended cures as detailed here but the effects of the #2 black will not be bad for you and can even give you positive results.

Summary for year 2008:

Do not activate this area with loud noises, keep quiet and avoid at all costs building work or refurbishment. Do not use the fire element or colours red, pink or purple. Keep doors closed. Place a Wu Lou, salt water cure, gold Toad, wealth ingot and six coins here along with metal ornaments. Use colours white, silver, gold or copper. I will repeat this part, as it is so important, please keep the northwest of your home quiet, and avoid redecoration and building work in 2008.

Better months are March, May, July, October and December.

Take extra care in the months of February, April, June, August, September, October, and November.

Tips:

  • Hang six Chinese coins tied in red ribbon.
  • Place a salt water cure.
  • You do not need all Dragons and bells, you can use any metal ornament as long as it is not sharp or aggressive looking, and believe it or not a good cure is a round metal dog bowl or weight lifters weights.
  • A brass wealth ingot is good for protecting wealth.
  • Place a gold coloured three legged Toad with i-ching under.
  • Place a Wu Lou and/or other metal ornaments to dissipate the negative earth.
  • A metal singing bowl is very good as is a stainless steel Dog bowl.
  • Avoid using red colour in this room and refrain from displaying triangle shape or fiery pictures.
  • Avoid candles or bright lights at all costs.

West (3 Jade)

Beware of possible theft, arguments, disputes, hot tempers and legal problems.

Try and keep the west of your home as quiet as possible and avoid building work or renovations.

To remedy its effects use red decorative objects, candles lamps and lights. A nice simple cure is a red floor mat or a table lamp with a red shade. Do not use metal (metal colour is OK) to control this energy for you will aggravate it, restricting the beneficial influence brought by auspicious monthly stars in certain months and magnify its negative influence.

Do not have a water feature inside here unless a professional Practitioner has advised you.

Some books or websites you may have read will tell you the #3 wood star is a good star in period 8, in our opinion it is still an unpredictable star and you should not try and activate it unless you are qualified to do so. It will become more usable towards the mid to later part of the 20-year period 8 cycle.

I have seen websites and books recommending placing water here for the annual #3 star, do this and you could invite arguments, divorce and legal problems without taking into account your land formations, period, mountain and water stars, please be careful. I am not saying these people are wrong to recommend placing water; I am saying that you should take into account the bigger picture before using such a powerful enhancer on a known unbalanced star at this particular time in the twenty year cycle. I have used water many times on this star with good results but have also used water and got less desired results, it really depends on other occupying stars, land formations and also the gua of the occupants.

Ensure that documents signed during the year are checked through thoroughly before committing oneself. The influence of a Chen 3 in Period 8 denotes possible arguments, disagreement and in extreme cases, this can result in lawsuits, either as a petitioner or a defendant. Either case there will be a loss of time, energy and wealth, so please be careful during 2008 especially if you have a main door in the west and if you can, try and use another door to enter and leave. You should also a hang a Ba Gua mirror with a Chinese i-ching coin on the rear for added protection in 2008.

An imperative cure and slight enhancer to place in 2008 is a 12 coin ball, because we have the #3 wood star fall into a metal star, these two elements attack each and the reason why so many problems can occur, the cure is to place the coin ball in the west which the coin ball made of metal appeases the inherent element of the west and the strong red tassels burn of the negative qualities of the #3 wood star bringing harmony and balance and acutely some positive energy can come from this. This cure is vital if you have a bedroom in the west or other important room like office, lounge etc.

A traditional Chinese cure for the #3 is placing a Kwan Yin (Goddess of mercy) red in colour combined with a small piece of Jasper Red quartz crystal, this crystal is so powerful and enhances relations but more importantly protects against physical and physic attack which is what the #3 is well know for.

Do not take this affliction lightly. Do not disturb the ground of this area at all costs.

West facing properties with front doors to the west must be careful not to allow the doors to slam and do not renovate or dig in the west, south and north for 2008.

Tips:

  • Place a light in the west If you have a choice, a lamp with a wooden stand and a peach/red shade is better.
  • Do not hang wind chimes of any material in this area of the house, especially metal wind chimes as it will worsen matters.
  • During hot summer months, make sure the fan is not located in the west.
  • Take extra security measures for the whole home or business during 2008 and check smoke alarms.
  • Check through everything before signing documents if office is in the west.
  • Try and keep this area quiet and do not disturb with loud noises.
  • If you had last years cures and enhancers kits place your jade pagoda here.
  • Try not to let children or noisy animals play in the west.
  • Beware of backstabbing, as sometimes it is unseen and behind your back and also from someone you thought you knew quite well.

Northeast (4 Green)

The Sun wood 4 occupies the northeast palace for 2008 and this is a conditional star but is auspicious in Period 8 (2004 - 2024). It governs romance, travel, creative, academic and artistic talents, wisdom and intelligence as well as self-development. If you want to enhance this wonderful star use a very special yin water feature or colours blue or black, this is a good area to have a pair of Mandarin Ducks; Dragon headed Tortoise or photos of you and your partner/family.

Normally a yin water feature is fresh still water although this year 2008 you must use a master cure which is an extremely powerful cure and enhancer in 2008 and one that can only be used in certain years is by placing 4 pieces of hematite quartz crystal in the northeast. The nice part of this annual cure is that the hematite crystal will also enhance the #4 romance and literacy/career star and because they have to be placed in a small saucer of yin water combined with an i-ching coin placed yang side up, this helps bridge the gap in the elements between earth which is inherent in the NE and wood (the two elements are in conflict) which is the element of the visiting #4 wood, those of you who are Masters of Feng Shui will know this cure. This really is a lovely cure and enhancer at the same time. This crystal's should be cleansed of negative energy and empowered with positive Sheng Ch'i energy in moonlight or sun, which is said to bring wealth, health and good luck. Hematite when placed in the NE is the crystal that possesses the strongest symbol of life and love and enhances romance, career and creativity.

Without cures this 4 star can bring both wanted and unwanted romantic opportunities to the household if the cures are not put in place. Having a door in the northeast with the cures (hematite) can bring in new opportunities and lots of travel.

Do not use fire or metal in this area or colours white, silver. Do not worry if you have these colours already just introduce colours blue or black in the way of a floor mat, cushions, tablecloth or such like.

As in every star, the 4 Green has a positive and negative aspect to its nature. Although a favourable annual star in 2008, it can also be affected by the presence of an unfavourable monthly star and when it does, it denotes betrayal, heartbreaks, scandals and humiliation in affairs of the heart. The affected months are June, August, October and November. Treat this area as your relationship and creativity area for 2008 it can be very good for you. If the northeast is an important area like a main door, lounge bedroom etc please keep it is clean and clutter free as possible, believe me it makes so much difference.

Summary for year: With the above cures and enhancers in place you should make good use of this area especially if you are looking to enhance relationships or creativity, this area is very good for writers, artists, students and anyone that is related to the travel industry.

Avoid fire element and colours red, pink or purple. Good colours are blue or black. If you wish to enhance areas of creativity and academic achievements, place or hang moving objects to enhance the Ch'i of this sector, do not use wind chimes though. Keep area semi active with windows occasionally open. Do not use metal items here especially wind chimes from the 2008 cures. Spend time in the northeast if you want to enhance romance, creativity or academic pursuits.

Tips:

  • Use blue in your décor if this is your office or bedroom.
  • Make sure you remove all the metal cures from the 2007 cures and enhancers kit from the northeast as this will cause many relationship problems if left.
  • For office and studies, place a task light and a crystal globe on the work desks. Blue items can be added on the desk e.g. blue paper, blue books etc.
  • Avoid displaying too much metal objects here especially large heavy ornaments.
  • Fresh flowers or small pots of green leafy or flowering plants can be displayed in this spot of the house to lift the qi. Blue or green flowers are a good choice.
  • If you have mandarin Ducks this is a good area to have them and any other symbols of romance like hugging couples etc.
  • Place photos of loved ones or images of love to enhance relationships or attract new love. This can done with photos, paintings or statues, make sure there is always a pair in the image.
  • For romance a Dragon headed Tortoise or Mandarin Ducks is very good.

South (5 Yellow)

Do not to disturb its position here with noisy activities, renovations or maintenance work. Houses with gardens to this corner of the property should avoid disturbing the ground with major digging or building work.

The 5 Yellow also called 'Wu Huang or Lian Zhen)' in Chinese, is one of the annual afflictions. It is a very volatile star. It has no gender and no trigram and is highly dangerous when disturbed. When disturbed, its malevolent influence brings disaster, sickness, lawsuits and major loss of wealth. Do be careful with it. Stillness together with metal cures can keep its negative influences at bay.

As we have so many negative affiliations in the south with the annual #5 yellow, three killings and sui po you must place a salt water cure, six rod wind chime, Wu Lou and six Chinese coins tied with red ribbon and also place more metal decorative objects (provided they are not menacing looking, round shape metal is good) to dissipate its negative.

Another extremely imperative cure in 2008 and because the annual afflictions are so bad in the south, you must place a six Dragon Pagoda in the south of your home or office to avoid severe problems. This cure really is one of the most protective cures you can use and also a powerful enhancer, for protection against legal problems, arguments, disputes and loss of wealth in 2008. The combination of the six Dragons, Kwan Yin, Pagoda six bells, i-ching coin and talisman makes this the most effective cure and enhancer in 2008 to protect yourself against overall bad luck, money loss, legal problems and business competitors.

You MUST NEVER disturb the south inside or out by lots of drilling or knocking activities. So please be careful when you hang your metal six rod wind chime to control its influence in the south sector of your house. You should also place a Ba Gua mirror especially if you have a main door here, I will be renewing mine on February 4th without fail.

You must not place red objects, bright lights, candles or red coloured furnishing in this sector. Do not worry if you have these colours already just introduce colours white, silver, gold or copper in the way of a floor mat, cushions, throws, tablecloth or such like. You can also use dark blue or black if you prefer.

If your bathroom, cloakroom, en-suite, guest room or a large cupboard is located here, this is good for you this year, because these areas are not used much and therefore the negative power is not activated, I would still place the cures though regardless of what room is located in the south.

Summary: Do not activate this area with loud noises, keep quiet and avoid at all costs building work or refurbishment. Do not use the fire element or colours red, pink or purple. Keep doors closed. Place six-rod wind chime, Wu Lou, 6 Dragon Pagoda, salt water cure and six coins here along with metal ornaments. Use colours white, silver, gold or copper. I will repeat this part, as it is so important, please keep the south of your home or office quiet, avoid redecoration and building work in 2008 in the south part of your home or office and when you hang your wind chime try not to make so much noise with hammers etc, don't worry about the noise the wind chime makes, this is all part of the cure, so when it is in place try and remember to knock it a few times a day.

Summary for year 2008:

Take extra care in the months of February, March, May, July, September, November and December.

Tips:

  • Avoid playing loud music in the south of the home or room.
  • Do not decorate your room with red or earth colours this year. Grey, blue or white beddings and curtains are good colours to use temporarily.
  • Place a salt water cure in the south of the building along with six Chinese coins tied in a row with red ribbon and six hollow metal rod wind chime.
  • The six Dragon Pagoda is a crucial cure to place in 2008, please do not forget it.
  • Place a Brass Wu-Lou in the south corner of the room if this is your bedroom.
  • Metal objects such as six Chinese metal coins tied in a red ribbon and/or a brass Dragon can be placed in this corner too. Do not to use red dragons.
  • Do not place red objects, burning candles or triangular shaped furnishing in this sector.
  • Most of all, avoid disturbing the south at all costs. Any form of renovations that needs to be done, plan it for another year. It is worth keeping this in mind.
  • Tsai Shen Yeh (God of wealth) in a gold colour is very effective at not only reducing the bad earth but by also protecting your wealth for the year in the south.
  • Replace or at the very least cleanse your Ba Gua mirror in the south especially if you have a door here.
  • If you have a main door in the south make sure you oil the hinges and try not to let it bang shut.
  • If you use a fan or other machines that creates noise or vibration try and avoid placing it in the south part of a room, get yourself a good compass.

North (6 White)

6 White is a benevolent money star and as an annual star, its position in the north in 2008 is excellent for career, wealth, politicians, leaders and anyone involved in the property market, so for those with a main door, office/study in the north will benefit greatly.

This year this #6 star will bring more success for anyone with an office or main door in the north.

Those who have main doors or offices in the north sector will enjoy excellent business and career success. However, whilst 6 White represents accomplishment, if the #6 annual star is located in a bedroom it can cause problems with the liver and/or legs. If you do have a bedroom in the north place some blue cloth like a rug or duvet cover to dissipate its energy.

A lovely enhancer and protector in the north in 2008 especially if you have a main door, bedroom, office or other important room is to place a wealth and romance enhancer and protector which has dual Dragons, i-ching coin and double carps. The double Carp's represent wealth and relationships protection and catalyst to enhance further. The two powerful Dragons encased around an i-ching coin giving ultimate protection and enhancement of wealth making this the perfect enhancer and also protector of wealth, business and relationships in 2008. This is such a nice traditional cure and enhancer.

Please remember that Tai Sui (The Grand Duke of Jupiter) resides between 352.5º - 7.5º north in 2008. It is vital that you must never sit facing this 15º sector. If you confront him, you will experience defeat, demotion, loss and obstacles. Instead, sit with your back to this sector and he will support you.

Do not undertake any form of noisy renovations or re-decorative work in this part of your house or office between February 4th 2008 and February 3rd 2009. Nor should you disturb the ground by digging holes, building foundations or conduct any maintenance work with any noisy equipment in this area inside or outside your property or garden. Once disturbed, this affliction will bring about three types of misfortunes - financial loss, sickness and arguments. This is the worst out of all the annual afflictions and in our home and business we take this very seriously as in our 28 years experience with Feng Shui we have seen some pretty nasty events from this energy when disturbed.

A traditional cure and enhancer is to place a statue of a Turtle in the north 2008 especially if your property faces north. This particular Turtle is sat on a bed of wealth ingots so he also enhances wealth as well as protecting health which is nice. The turtle is the ruler of the north, symbolizing endurance, strength, and longevity and the reason why we have included this standard in our 2008 normal kit.

Strict advice for 2008 is that if your property faces north you must not renovate the building in 2008 especially in the south and north.

Summary for year 2008:

Take extra care in the months of March, April, October and December.

This is a nice area and even better if your main door or office is located here, keep area active with windows and doors open. Good colours are earth colours yellow. Place some real quartz crystal here or the hanging faceted sphere type; these are very good for activating the wealth and business side of this nice star.

Tips:

  • If this is your bedroom, a shade of blue or black in your furnishing or décor may help with health. A blue painting (not water scene) may also do.
  • Place a set six Chinese coins tied together with ribbon this year especially for the months of October and April 2008.
  • Real quartz crystal is very good in the north for 2008 as is faceted crystal spheres.

Southwest (7 Red)

The 7 red star is a negative influence in Period 8. The trigram Tui is also known as 'Broken Soldier'. This is a fighting star. When combined with another untimely star, its negative nature denotes assault, deceit, violence and robbery. This year 2008 it falls into the earth element of the southwest which is actually quite nice and we can turn bad into good here with the following advice.

Whilst some good will come from this star the #7 Red still portends a high risk of burglary, deception, copyright theft, gossip and back stabbing especially in the months of February, April and May.

If you have a door in the southwest or even a window you should be looking to update security, smoke alarms and checking electrics, the next most important cure is placing a Liang Yi Quan Enhancer this is a very old and traditional cure used when the 7 star falls into the southwest, do not use this cure in any other year.

Liang Yi Quan is a such a commanding cure, Eight I-ching coins tied into a circle with three further yang sided coins with wealth ingots on top. This is a very traditional cure and enhancer for the #7 star and with the unique way the coins have been arranged and made it gives balance to the yin and yang when the #7 star visits the southwest as the metal and earth of these two elements balance each other and this cure is protecting against theft, fraud, gossip, lies, legal problems and wealth loss. These coins represent wealth protection, fortune, wealth and success and whilst the #7 star is seen as bad this cure can reverse it and create wealth in 2008. They can also be used as Wealth enhancers and be placed inside your accounts book.

You should also a hang a Ba Gua mirror with a Chinese i-ching coin on the rear for added protection in 2008 but only do so if you have a main door in the southwest.

As I have said above please take extra security measures especially if you have a front, back or side door in the southwest sector. Make sure doors and windows are fastened securely before leaving the house. Do not display valuable items on windowsills, which may attract the interests of passers-by.

It pays to be wise to avoid taking too many risks for there may be unscrupulous people working against you. There are indications of misunderstandings, pressure and business rivalries that could also lead to losses.

The best advice I can give is check or install smoke alarms, check electrics and check the security of windows and doors in the southwest.

Summary: Keep area quiet and doors and windows kept closed. Good colours are blue or black. Avoid earth and fire colours and quartz crystals.

Summary for year:

If you have an office or door in the southwest be careful of people trying to deceive you, robbery, arguments and loss of wealth, always look at the very small print and be careful as this star normally causes problems with people you know and thought you could trust.

Tips:

  • You should also use more blue in your decoration. You can introduce the colour with cushions, rugs, bed covers or doormats.
  • Do not use anything of fire element or colours red to control it as this may aggravate it.
  • Place a Liang Yi Quan Enhancer for protection in 2008.
  • Avoid candles at all costs.
  • Install or service smoke alarms and security systems.
  • Do not hang metal wind chimes here.

East (8 White)

This is the governing flying star for the next sixteen years of the lower era of the sexagenarian cycle of the flying stars system and is located in the east for 2008, so if you have a door, office or any other important room in the east this is great news for you. It is somewhat spoilt though as the #8 star is associated with earth element and sadly the east is a wood element which places the two elements in conflict but we will advice you on how to improve this.

Wealth, fame. Romance, prestige and distinction can be expected especially if you have an office here or a main door, even if you do not we can still activate it. It brings good fortune and exciting times even with the conflict of elements.

If you work with symbols, quartz crystals, crystal balls or hanging faceted crystals are good for this east palace this year. The #8 star also governs relationships so a nice romance enhancer is a pair of rose quartz double hearts or a pair of Mandarin Ducks this year.

Whilst wealth is forecasted in 2008 for the east, beware of overworking as this can cause you health problems. The extra work will bring a good income but be careful of your health; in particular stress related resulting in high blood pressure or kidney problems. You should make time for your family as whilst it is nice to enjoy the success we can often overlook things that are far more important like the ones we love and also our health. If you are older you need to be careful with limbs and joints so please take care in the icy weather and no risky sports if you have a bedroom in the east.

One of the most powerful and important cures in 2008 and whilst not directly related to the west and only to be used in certain years is called a four pillars Taiyang enhancer and whilst powerful in 2008 the only time it can be used again is in 2020. This cure is only known to a few Masters and clients are normally charged a lot of money to receive the formula as it changes each year and whilst it is not placed in the west it harmonises all the elements that are out of sync in 2008.

Each crystal is used to work in synergy with the inherent element of the compass sector giving protection, wealth, health & mind. They have to be placed in the inter-cardinal directions SW, SE, NE & NW with an auspicious dynasty Chinese I-ching coin placed in the centre of the building making this a very powerful and commanding cure and enhancer for wealth, relationships and protection, this cure is also need for protection in the south so the reason why this is standard with all our cures and enhancers kits.

Another very important cure and enhancer and allow for the disparity of elements is a wooden wu lou and whilst the wu lou is not normally associated with wealth but because in 2008 the #8 wealth star visits the east which is a wood element and as the two elements are in conflict you need to enhance and protect wealth. The combination of the wooden wu lou with the strong red ribbon combined with a small piece of red Tigers Eye quartz crystal provides the perfect cure and wealth enhancer for 2008.

Do not place heavy metal in the west this year, as it will weaken the good earth. Great news if you have your main door here and if you are in an office try and locate your desk in east or north part of the office.

This is a very strong wealth, success and romance area for 2008 so try and store your important financial papers here like pensions, stock portfolio etc in the west. If you use symbolic cures this is where you should place your three-legged Toad facing your Sheng Chi direction for wealth a pair of rose quartz crystal hearts for romance.

A traditional cure and I will be placing in the east in my business is a Ch'ing-lung -Azure Dragon, we had this magnificent Dragon commissioned for us to exact measurements and stature and this is one of the finest I have ever seen and made from resin and looks like Cochin ceramic, each hand painted to a very high quality, standing on a wooden plinth. This must be placed in the east in 2008 or placed by your main door or a window looking into the home or office. This extremely powerful cure and enhancer is for the wealth #8 star and because the #8 star is visiting the east which is inherent in wood this can cause conflict and why the Dragon must face into the home so to stop money from leaving, it can only be used in 2008 and because this is no ordinary coiled Dragon and associated with the east.

Summary for year:

Take extra care with health in the months of March, May and June.

Tips:

  • Hang a faceted crystal sphere in this area of the house near the window or door. Hang it above head height and twist now and again.
  • The energies of the annual 8 can be activated by human activities. Use this room as frequently as possible unless you have received professional advice against it.
  • The red three-legged toad can be placed here. Make sure the toad is facing into the house and not towards the door and the coin is never taken out of his mouth.
  • Introduce some fire colours into the east to balance the energies, a quick and easy way is using bed covers, rugs, table covers, sofa throws etc.
  • If your bedroom is here, you can also place an amethyst or any crystal items in the west of the bedroom to further strengthen the earth element of the benevolent 8.
  • This is also a good study area for children. Place a task light and a crystal globe on the desk to enhance concentration.
  • A romance enhancer is a pair of rose quartz Mandarin Ducks in the west this year.
  • Keep area active with open windows and doors (yang energy).
  • Keep the area outside and inside the east, north and northeast as clear clutter free and open as possible, you need to let the auspicious Qi collect here and distribute inside and outside when this happens it is know as Ming Tang, this is a collection of Sheng Chi (auspicious energy).

Southeast (9 Purple)

You Bi Li 9 Purple is found in the southeast in 2008 and this heralds celebrations so make hay while the sun shines if you have a main door in the southeast and because the two elements are harmonise this really is a lovely combination so if you have an important room in the southeast this is great news and no cures or enhancers are really needed.

9 Purple is the star of future wealth and has an auspicious influence in Period 8. Career opportunities and promotions are probable especially if you have an office or main door in the southeast in 2008. There is fame and acknowledgement, growth and improvement.

This is a good area in general especially for those in studies. If this is a family area (living, dining or a library), encourage children to study here.

Couples with bedroom in this location will also enjoy good relationships. There may also be a chance of producing intelligent children. If you want to enhance this further place a statue of Kwan Yin in the southeast part of your bedroom.

If you want to enhance fertility you can display peanuts in shells (groundnuts) or any seed products like black or red melon seeds (Gua zi). In Mandarin, peanuts are called 'hua-sheng' and for the Chinese this word is onomatopoeic in that the sound of it means the birth of many children. You should display them anywhere in the bedroom and of course be careful if anyone in the home suffers with nut allergies.

Although deemed as an auspicious star, the element of the annual #9 star can strengthen the malevolent effects of visiting monthly stars #2 and #5. Hang a a set of six Chinese coins tied together with ribbon here to weaken the undesirable influences of the monthly stars #2 and #5 which will visit in April and July.

The six Chinese coins tied together with ribbon will also ward off sha qi (external poison arrows) at the front door or windows. If there is incoming traffic or driveways pointed directly at your front door or window, apart from hanging a Ba Gua mirror to counter this destructive flow of qi, you can also hang a coin sword with it facing the door or window.

Summary for year:

Be aware of the negative influences during the April and July.

Tips:

  • Healthy green leafy plants or blue flowering plants such as violets are good for this area.
  • Fresh flowers displayed here will bring positive qi too.
  • Symbolic objects such as a gold abacus or six Chinese coins can be placed here all year round to enhance benevolent influence and at the same time dissipate the malevolent influence by the visiting monthly #2 and #5.
  • Coin swords hung with its hilt facing the front door or window in this sector can help ward off any external poison arrows as well as weaken the effects of visiting monthly stars #2 and #5.
