Headache Home Remedies to Relieve Your Pain

Many people who suffer from headaches look to home remedies for a cure. Such remedies tend to be more natural and in some ways, are better for you than over the counter medications. These medications can cause problems, such as unpleasant side effects and rebound headaches. Here are a few headache home remedies that may be just what youíre looking for if you want to avoid taking medications.

One way to naturally rid yourself of a headache is through the water blowing method. You fill your bathtub with hot water, kneel down, place your face in the water, and blow out of your nose. Lift your head for a breath and repeat the blowing procedure five more times. Then lie back and relax for at least 15 minutes and you should feel your headache subside.

Diaphragmatic breathing coupled with visualization is another way to relieve your headache. Throughout this exercise you should breathe deeply from your diaphragm, not your chest. Imagine yourself in a bubble of light any color you want. When you can see yourself clearly, imagine plunging your hand into a bucket of ice. When your hand is completely numb, rub it over your head wherever the headache is and imagine the cold soothing your pain.

Pretend pharmacy is another headache home remedy that works for many people. You imagine that youíre going into a pharmacy and taking a headache remedy. The more detailed the scene in your mind, the better this works. Your mind canít tell the difference between actual medication and pretend medication, so it thinks youíve actually taken something and the pain goes away.

How To Get Rid Of Tension Headaches Without Drugs

Tension headaches, very simply, occur when you have tension in your neck, shoulders, and upper back. The biggest culprit: poor posture. Many office workers slump over in their chairs for eight hours a day and then go home and do the exact same thing in front of the television. Over-the-counter medication has little effect on this type of headache and can even make the pain worse by causing rebound headaches that occur when you stop taking the medication. If you want to know how to get rid of tension headaches, you have to get rid of the muscle spasms that are causing the pain in the first place and practice better posture.

If drugs donít help, then what can you do? First off, prevent tension headaches by not allowing tension to build up in the first place. A good way to do this is through some effective stress management techniques. Try some deep breathing when youíre feeling stressed out and make exercise a regular part of your day, especially relaxing exercises like yoga or tai chi.
