Vastu Devta - Savita (सविता)

Samaranganasutradhara identifies 'Savita' as, 'Goddess Ganga'. Savitr (stem) or Savita (nominative singular) is a solar deity in the Rigveda and one of the twelve Adityas. In the Vedas, Savita is a symbol of the Divine. Savita means God on the plane of Eternity. It means sun on the physical plane, it means intelligence on the psychic plane and it means vitality on the biological plane. Savitr is a beneficent God who acts as protector of all the beings, who are provident and guards the world of spirits. Savitr is considered the lord of Hasta Nakshatra.

Drawing the gold-yoked car with his white footed bays, he manifests light to all the people. He goes to darksome regions to illumine them. Far-seeing Savitr goes on his way between the earth and the heaven, drives away sickness, bids the Sun approach us and spreads the bright sky through the darksome regions. Like other Adityas, he is an upholder of the eternal law. Sometimes he is described as superior to all the other gods, whose statutes none disobey.

Savitra and Saavitra expresesse and expands as Nabha, Agni and Pushan. Agni is the Life Force and the black magic is used to destroy the life force redering the victim weak. Savitra drives away the effect of such Kriyas and re-establishes the Pran Shakti.

He/She is sometimes associated with - and at other times distinguished from - Surya, "the Sun". When considered distinct from the Sun proper, he is conceived of as the divine influence or vivifying power of the Sun. The Sun before sunrise is called Savitr, and after sunrise until sunset it is called Sūrya. Savitr is celebrated in eleven whole hymns of the Rig Veda.

Savitr is implored to remove evil nightmares and to render men sinless. Savitr drives away antagonistic vibes and sorcerers. He observes fixed laws. The waters and the wind are subject to his ordinance. He leads the waters and by his propulsion they flow broadly.

Savitr is besought to stimulate the thoughts of worshipers who desire to think of the excellent brilliance of the Deva. Savitra is invoked with Gayatri mantra. Savitr sometimes has been identified with Bhaga also. Bhaga in Sanskrit means Yoni, the female genital. as per Sanskrit dictionary Savitra (सवित्र) means 'Cause of generation'.
